Four migrant workers were arrested by Thai soldiers while they sneaked into Thailand from Banteay Meanchey province to seek jobs, police said.
Brigadier General Um Sophal, provincial deputy police chief, said today that one of the four sustained injury in his left leg while running over a barbed wire near Poipet commune’s Kbal Spean I village.
“One migrant worker was injured in his left leg while trying to run away from Thai soldiers.”
Brig Gen Sophal said that Thai authorities on Tuesday also arrested three other Cambodian migrant workers who illegally crossed into Thailand from Banteay Meanchey province.
He said that migrant workers illegally crossed border to Rongleu Market in Thailand, and came acorss Thai soldiers who were on their patrol along the border.
“Thai soldiers shot into the air and he tripped over the barbed wire,” he said.
He said all four workers were sent back to Cambodia.
Last week, Interior Minister Sar Kheng ordered all governors of provinces bordering Thailand to prevent migrant workers from sneaking into Thailand in a move to curb the coronavirus.
