Interior Minister Sar Kheng has ordered all governors of provinces bordering Thailand to prevent migrant workers from sneaking into Thailand in a move to curb the coronavirus.
In a letter issued this week, Mr Kheng said that some border middlemen usually persuaded workers to cross Thai border illegally while Thailand has been on a lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.
He said to maintain public order and stem the spread of the virus, all governors should advise all local authorities along the borders to cooperate with neighbouring countries in preventing illegal border crossings.
“The authorities must look for middlemen who bring workers into neighboring countries through border crossings,” Mr Kheng said.
Health Minister Mam Bun Heng said on Monday that about 92,000 migrant workers recently returned from Thailand and most of them were cleared of COVID-19 after mandatory quarantine.
