The Labour Ministry announced that workers who were absent from work without permission and went back to their home provinces during Khmer New Year will not get any wages while being quarantined for 14 days before being allowed to resume their jobs in the capital.
A letter signed by Labour Minister said those who went on leave with permission would be paid wages for seven days of the quarantine period.
The letter said employees who took leave for emergencies such as their wife’s delivery or a family member’s funeral would be paid wages for all 14 days.
It said affected workers must provide their name to their company’s administration department following which they must be sent to a designated health centre for quarantine.
It also said the employee must report to company administration about their health during quarantine 14 days. And the employee must wear mask after finishing quarantine.
“In cases where workers do not follow those measures, the employee could be fired without compensation from the company,” it said.
