60 foreigners detected positive for COVID-19 since start of pandemic in Cambodia in January

As of yesterday morning, March 29, there are in total 103 COVID-19 patients in Cambodia, including 43 Cambodians, 36 French, 12 Malaysians, 5 British, 2 Americans, 2 Indonesian, one Canadian, one Belgian, and one Chinese Of them, 21 have recovered.

Since the first case detected in Preah Sihanouk province in late January, the COVID-19 pandemic has now hit 13 provinces and capital of Cambodia.

Among the 60 foreigners, almost all of them were imported patients who had entered the country before the travel restrictions were imposed.

The Malaysians who were infected had handed a religious gathering in Malaysia end f February and had traveled to Cambodia to take part in similar gatherings on a smaller scale in Kampot and other provinces.

Among the French group, three wee family members who had flown in from Singapore after being advised to be in self isolation in Singapore until the results of the test were out.

The man, who underwent the test, flew to Cambodia on the 14th of March and was picked by the Ministry of Health after being alerted by Singapore authorities. On arrival he had checked into an apartment at Toultompomg area and had also visited several outlets before he was picked up late evening.

His four months old infant was detected positive whole the mother was detected positive last week, after caring for her infant at Kankha Bopha hospital.

Some of the foreigners detected were almost at the end of the 14 day quarantine period, this giving rise to the fact that some infections manifest and are only positive after a number of days.
