Last Saturday, Singapore Medical Center (SGMC), managed by Dr Map, in support of National colorectal cancer awareness month, organised an up-close and personal health talk about colon cancer. The talk was given by SGMC’s colorectal specialist, Dr. Jonathan Foo.
The event featured topics on raising awareness and allowed attendees to learn more about the national campaign. Dr. Foo, the general and colorectal surgeon explained that to prevent colon cancer, it is important to undergo regular screening of the gut health, and understanding the various test options and treatments available to detect colon cancer.
After an hour at the event, the attendees were able to pose questions to Dr. Jonathan.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), International agency for research on cancer, in the year 2018, colon cancer was among the top five leading causes of cancer related deaths in Cambodia. Colon cancer is highly treatable if detected early, and most colon cancers and deaths from the disease may be prevented by screening for colon polyps.
