$2.8 Billion sent home by Cambodian migrant workers in 2019

Cambodian migrant workers abroad sent home some US$2.8 billion as remittances last year, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

The remittances were transferred by 1.2 million of Cambodian workers working in Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia.

The ministry’s Spokesperson  Heng Sour said at a press conference held here at the Council of Ministers on Thursday that the ministry is working with the host countries to improve the working conditions, workers’ rights and other benefits for the Cambodian migrant workers.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, more than 36,000 Cambodians were recruited last year alone  to work in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and China.  AKP
