Metfone Cambodian League 2020 kicks off on Saturday

The Metfone Cambodian League 2020 will kick off with three games this coming Saturday.

The first game (starting at 3:30pm at the Tonle Bati National Football Centre) will pit National Football Academy FC against National Defense FC.

It will be followed by the tussle between Phnom Penh Crown FC and Electricite du Cambodge FC. The game will start at 6pm at the RSN Stadium. National Police FC and Visakha FC will have their opener that same day at the Western Stadium. The action starts at 6pm.

The Cambodian League is the top football division in Cambodia. There are 13 teams that are competing for the crown in this year’s edition of the Cambodian League. Games are played every Saturday and Sunday.

There are four teams from Phnom Penh, three from Kandal, two from Siem Reap, two from Takeo, one from Svay Rieng and one from Sihanoukville.

The Phnom Penh-based teams are Boeung Ket FC, Electricite du Cambodge FC, Phnom Penh Crown FC and Visakha FC. The teams that are based in Kandal province are Asia Euro United FC, National Defense FC and NagaWorld FC.

From Takeo province are Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC and National Football Academy FC (Bati Youth), while National Police FC is based in Sihanoukville. Soltilo Angkor FC and Angkor Tiger FC are both based in Siem Reap.

Svay Rieng province is represented by Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, the defending champion and the current top-ranked team in the League.

At the conclusion of the 2019 Season, PKR Svay Rieng FC had 65 points, followed by Visakha FC with 58 points and NagaWorld FC with 55 points. The fourth and fifth places went to Boeung Ket FC and Angkor Tiger FC.

PKR Svay Rieng FC forward Jean Befolo “Privat” Mbarga had 36 goals, making him the top goal scorer of the 2019 Season.

The tournament is principally sponsored by Metfone, Cambodia’s leading mobile operator. Metfone is part of the Vietnamese telecommunications giant Viettel Group.
