The Cambodian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (CBFF) has elected Tek Bunvy as its new president.

During the CBFF general assembly early this week, Bunvy received the majority of votes to lead the organisation for the next four years. Bunvy received 16 votes to the three votes cast for current president Rasmey Sokmongkol.

Sokmongkol has been the president of the organisation since it was rechristened as CBFF in 2011. Prior to that, it was called the Body Building Federation.

During the same assembly, CBFF also elected other officers and the Executive Committee members for 2020-2024.

The secretary-general position went to Chab Vanny. Sok Vannak, Nom Sobin, Heng Sarath and Thi Bunthy were elected as deputy secretary-generals.

Sambo Nan, Un Borath, Hun Sophy and Chun Dy Ratana are the other newly-elected members of the Executive Committee.

In his message after the voting, Bunvy said he is committed to further promoting and developing bodybuilding and related disciplines in the Kingdom.

He said all Federation members should work together, especially in light of the fact that Cambodia will be hosting the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. “We must join forces in the spirit of development,” he stressed.

In the past, CBFF has struggled to gain national and international recognition. But that has changed in recent years, with Cambodia’s bodybuilders starting to win international competitions.

In 2015, Cambodia hosted the 5th Southeast Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships and Congress. It marked the first time the Kingdom had hosted such a big international gathering of bodybuilders.

Cambodian bodybuilders won four gold medals, two silvers and three bronze during the event.

Sok Sopheak, Cambodia’s most successful bodybuilder, placed second in the 2013 Asian Bodybuilding Championships and fourth at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar.

Bunvy previously served as the secretary-general of CBFF. He is also one of Cambodia’s most successful and well-known bodybuilders.

He placed third in the World Body Building Championship in Thailand four years ago. Prior to that, Bunvy was named Mr Angkor 2015 after taking the top spot in the Master’s Category in the Angkor Bodybuilding Association’s 5th Annual Competition in Siem Reap City.
