The Ministry of Post and Telecommunication has announced nominations are now open to recognise top women leaders in the field of technology.
The Outstanding Women in Technology Awards 2020, marks the third consecutive year of celebrating the achievements of women in Cambodia’s technology industry. This year’s award programme is based on the theme of “Women and the Digital Economy” and is seeking prospective candidates from the Kingdom.
The awards are designed to recognise women across all technology disciplines that are breaking new frontiers by leading and founding firms, building innovative tools, technologies and experiences.
This programme is setting the stage for the awards to return for the third time to encourage more women to contribute to the development of Cambodia’s digital economy.
Kan Channmeta, secretary of state at the ministry, said more engagement from women in the tech sector is an important initiative when it comes to contributing to the development of the tech sector. “This also enables Cambodia to move forward with its goal to turn the Kingdom into a digital economy,” he said.
He noted that the outstanding women in technology awards have become an annual custom and key point in time to recognise tech-minded women in the country. Kan said this programme is a crucial part of our campaign to showcase Cambodia’s role-models and their inspiring achievements. “During the Digital Cambodia 2020 Expo this year we will celebrate five winners who are doing important work to power Cambodia’s digital economy while, at the same time, helping to expand gender equality.”
The nomination process begins from now on and will continue until March 5. During this time, the public is invited to nominate candidates. Applicants should have experience working in a high-tech environment, acquired high leadership skills, as well as possess the capacity to apply these skills towards serving the community.
They must also be women who show strong commitment in devoting time and efforts towards finding solutions in any field of technology for the benefit of the Cambodian society as a whole.
Upon the receipt of the applications, the ministry will evaluate and determine all nominees based on the judging criteria and qualifications accordingly. The five winners will be honoured at an awarding ceremony during the Digital Cambodia 2020 expo, that will be held at the Koh Pich Exhibition centre from March 20 to 23 this year.
Since 2018, the ministry has been operating this programme with funds allocated from the Capacity Building, Research and Development Fund, which was established under the Law on Telecommunications with the purpose of promoting the development of human resources, as well as research and development activities in the information and communications technology sector in Cambodia.
Since the launch of the Outstanding Women in Technology Awards, more than 70 women have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to Cambodia’s burgeoning tech industry.
