The Kingdom is set to play host to Miss Tourism Metropolitan International (MTMI) 2019 for the second time.
It will feature 30 gorgeous participants from all over the globe competing in events held at NagaWorld, Phnom Penh.
The 13th edition of the renowned annual beauty pageant seeks to crown the successor to 2018 winner Sarah Chebet Pkyach of Kenya, with events culminating in the World Final at NABA Theatre @ NagaWorld2 on Dec 14.
The pageant was founded in 2007 by Malaysian entrepreneur Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi and has only been held outside Malaysia once before – in 2016. Because of the success of the event, the organiser has decided once again to hold it in Cambodia, where NagaWorld is the official hotel for the participants during their entire stay from Dec 1 to 16.
According to organiser D’Touch International, the pageant gives an ideal opportunity for delegates of different cultural backgrounds to share, exchange and learn from one another’s experiences.
“Once again I am happy to be in Phnom Penh,” said Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi in his welcoming address at NABA Theatre on Tuesday. “This is my second time bringing MTMI to Cambodia and to NagaWorld. The first time was the tenth edition and now, after three years, we are back.
“The event is supported by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism and serves as a platform to showcase the Kingdom of Wonder as well as other aspects of tourism and the culture of the host nation.
“In fact, most of the ladies delegates are first-timers to the country so we hope they can find the time to enjoy not only the pageant but also the warmth of Cambodia.”
The selected delegates are from Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Estonia, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macedonia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
Prior to the World Final on Dec 14, MTMI delegates will compete for the “Best in National Costume” at NagaWorld1 Lobby Stage on Dec 10. They will also be engaging in several promotional and charitable activities around the city, including key tourism landmarks.
The overall winner will be crowned on Dec 14 at NABA Theatre @ NagaWorld2 along with the top four runners up, while special awards will also be given for “Best in Talent”, “Miss Friendship” and “Miss Photogenic”.
