Cooler weather on the way

The Water Resources and Meteorology Ministry yesterday issued a notice informing the public that a majority of the Kingdom will experience cooler temperatures from Thursday to Monday due to high pressure from China and strong northeast monsoon.

The provinces of Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Pailin, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri will have minimum temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures of 25 to 27 degrees Celcius.

The provinces of Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kratie and Koh Kong will experience lows of 12 to 20 degrees Celcius and highs of 26 to 28 degrees Celcius.

Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces and Phnom Penh will experience lows of between 21 to 23 degrees Celcius and highs of 26 to 28 degrees Celcius.

The provinces of Kampot and Preah Sihanouk will experience lows of 22 to 24 degrees Celcius and highs of 27 to 29 degrees Celcius.

It said citizens, especially military personnel deployed along international borders near the Dangrek mountain, must stay warm.

Or Vandin, spokesman for the Health Ministry yesterday said infants and the elderly must be paid special attention to during the cool weather because they could suffer.

“Infants…and the elderly are at risk of getting sick…they must wear thick clothes, drink enough water and go to a hospital if they are sick,” she said.

The Health Ministry in a statement yesterday said it is expecting waves of cooler temperatures until February.
