Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Bodyguard Unit has asked Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities to take legal action against a resident posing as a bodyguard official to grab state land.
On Tuesday, Mr Hun Sen’s cabinet chief Ho Sithy wrote to unit commander General Hing Bun Heing, telling him that a man named Yu Narin was posing as the deputy commander of his unit to grab state land in Preah Sihanouk.
Gen Bun Heing forwarded the information to provincial authorities asking for immediate action to be taken.
“This has seriously harmed the reputation of the unit, and especially Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen,” the letter said.
Provincial governor Yun Min said he was familiar with the accusations against Mr Narin and planned to take action.
Oeung Sarom, second deputy commune chief in Betrang commune, said that the land grab occurred in his commune, on state land as suggested.
“This area has many anarchists that grab land, and they are newcomers,” he said.
“Mr Narin is in Phnom Penh but he often comes to the plot of land to build a fence around it.
“I have seen him and know his face, but I do not know his background,” he added.
