Philippines’ flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has been awarded the ‘Four Star Major Airline 2020’ rating by US-based Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX).
APEX is an organisation composed of world-leading travel industry stakeholders, including media, airlines, and other firms in the aviation industry.
The airline received the same award last year.
“We are elated by this industry recognition. More importantly, we wish to thank our passengers for validating PAL’s brand of service,” said PAL president and CEO Gilbert Santa Maria.
“Their feedback and ideas help us make PAL a more formidable competitor.
“This accolade will make us work even harder to further improve the overall passenger experience in all our flights,” he said.
The award is given based on the opinion of 1.4 million airline customers that were surveyed.
Nearly 600 airlines were rated on key aspects of the in-flight experience, including seat comfort, in-flight meals, in-flight entertainment, and WiFi connectivity.
“Only a small, single-digit percentage of these airlines reached the prestigious APEX Four Star Airline status,” said APEX CEO Joe Leader.
“All of us at APEX take extraordinary pride in giving full power to airline passengers as the ultimate source of validated truth in airline ratings worldwide,” he added.
PAL has recently rolled out new services, including a premium economy cabin, and upgraded its business and economy class offers on its long-haul aircraft.
In June, the airline rose to the 30th spot in a global ranking of the best airlines and won the ‘World’s Most Improved Airline’ award from London-based consultancy Skytrax. The same firm has certified PAL as a four-star global airline.
