Siem Reap, Cambodia’s tourism capital, will soon host another one of the world’s most prestigious hotel brands.

The Bangkok Post reported that Rosewood Hotel Group is slated to open four more hotels in Southeast Asia by 2023, including one in Siem Reap.

The report mentioned that Rosewood Yangon in Myanmar will open this year, Rosewood Hoi An in Vietnam in 2021, Rosewood Siem Reap in 2022, and Rosewood Hermana Mayor in the Philippines in 2023.

“In the last two years, we have been focusing on Asia because we are not well-known here, unlike in the US,” Sonia Cheng, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group, told the Bangkok Post.

Rosewood Siem Reap will be joining a growing list of luxury hotels in Siem Reap. The province is also home to Park Hyatt Siem Reap, Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, Jaya House River Park, Anantara Angkor Resort, Shinta Mani Club, and FCC Angkor Managed by Avani.

Chenda Clais, president of the Cambodia Hotel Association, told Khmer Times that the new development is good news for the Kingdom.

“It means that our country has now reached a sufficient level of development to attract international luxury brands. It will also create a lot of jobs while significantly raising our level of service,” she stressed.

Ms Clais added that it will further raise the profile of Siem Reap, already Cambodia’s most popular tourist destination. “That will undoubtedly help to place Siem Reap more and more on the international map of tourism.”

According to the original plan for the project, Rosewood Siem Reap will be located in the centre of Siem Reap city, some six kilometres from the world-famous Angkor Wat.

The main feature of the hotel will be 135 luxury rooms and 15 standalone villas. These will be complemented by five restaurants and bars, residential-style pavilion meeting and event space, outdoor function areas, and a host of recreational facilities.

The hotel will be jointly operated by Rosewood Hotel Group and Vattanac Properties.

Rosewood Siem Reap will be the second venture for the Rosewood Hotel Group in Cambodia. The company also operates Rosewood Phnom Penh, a 5-star hotel located within Cambodia’s tallest building, Vattanac Capital Tower.

Rosewood Siem Reap was originally scheduled to open in 2019, but for various reasons, the opening date was reset.

The Hong Kong-based Rosewood Hotel Group is one of the world’s leading hotel brands. The company, which is known for having some of the world’s most legendary hotels in its collection, currently operates 27 properties in 15 countries through Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.
