Defense Minister General Tea Banh today said the ministry has identified a total of 99 tycoons in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and within the ministry.
General Tea Banh told Khmer Times after a meeting on Friday that the ministry identified 65 tycoon titleholders working at RCAF’s high-command headquarters while 34 others serve at the ministry.
Gen. Banh noted that a majority of them decided to give up their tycoon titles and continue to serve the nation.
“I can’t tell how many of them gave up military positions by now until they follow the procedures and submitted official statements to us,” Gen. Banh said. “They might change their decision. So I can’t tell.”
General Chhum Sucheat, spokesman for the Defence Ministry, told Khmer Times on Tuesday that sixteen among 61 tycoon titleholders identified earlier have agreed to give up their military positions.
Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered all those in the military police and the national police to choose between their state positions or private titles in order to eradicate conflict of interest.
