A 43-year-old Vietnamese woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday after police discovered 17 Vietnamese females – seven of whom were under the age of 15 – and a collection of used and unused condoms at her massage parlor during a raid in February.
Le Thi Kim Chi was convicted of “procuring with aggravating circumstances,” due the age of the five girls, under articles 284 and 289 of the Criminal Code, explained presiding judge E Thavareak as he read the verdict.
Captain Sreng Hong, chief of the Phnom Penh municipal anti-human trafficking police unit, described Ms. Kim Chi as a pimp and said she had run a brothel out of her massage shop in Daun Penh’s Srah Chak commune.
“She allowed masseuses who were employed at her shop to have sex with their clients in her massage shop,” he said, adding that her arrest on the night of February 29 came after a tip-off to police.
The 17 women arrested alongside Ms. Kim Chi were released after a warning, he said.
