Interior Minister Sar Kheng today assigned a working group to monitor the Facebook page of Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Interior Ministry’s social and digital network.
According to a statement dated August 16, the working group consists of 14 members, headed by the Interior Ministry’s Secretary of State Huy Vannak, along with Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun, the National Police spokesman and two senior officials as deputies.
The group comprising various skilled officials is tasked with monitoring Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Facebook page by keeping an eye on users who make undesirable comments online or post fake news which could affect social security and public order.
The group is also tasked to disseminate information and response to comments made by the public in relation to the Interior Ministry’s Jurisdiction in a timely manner, the statement said.
According to the Interior Ministry’s anti-cyber-crime department, about 13 million out of the Kingdom’s 16 million population use the Internet.
The department noted that Internet enables people to spread news faster than traditional print media, and can cause confusion if they spread fake news.
