The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has issued a reminder to motorists to not use unauthorised license plates on their vehicles.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry said only it is authorised to issue number plates for the general public, while only the Interior and Defence Ministries can issue Royal Cambodian Armed Forces plates.

It noted that the ministry will scrutinise vehicles and take legal action against motorists who do not comply.

“Before being driven on the road, all vehicles must be registered and be provided with proper license plate numbers,” it said.

“[Motorists] are prohibited from using custom-made license plates or plates not issued by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.”

It added that it is illegal to use a license plate registered to another vehicle, and that concealing plate numbers is prohibited.
