Officials from the Labour Ministry on Tuesday sent scores of migrants to work in South Korea.

Many of the workers hope that working in South Korea will increase their livelihoods at home.

Ministry spokesman Heng Sour said at Phnom Penh International Airport that 32 workers were sent to South Korea, noting that country had agreed to accept up to 4,500 migrant workers this year.

“They are happy to work in South Korea because they will receive many benefits, including high-paying jobs and higher technical skills,” Mr Sour said.

He added that South Korea has a good management system for foreign workers because its Labour Ministry has established 40 Foreign Worker Protection Centres. Mr Sour said each centre has Cambodian officials.

“Workers there should take care of their health and be responsible so our workers have a good reputation,” he said.  Employers are satisfied with our workers and that more Cambodian workers will be accepted to work in South Korea.”
