Prime Minister Hun Sen Met With Huawei Southeast Asia President David Sun to Enhance National ICT

[Phnom Penh, Cambodia, December 8, 2016]: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen met last week with Huawei Southeast Asia CEO David Sun at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh. The two exchanged views about further cooperation for information communication technology (ICT) development in Cambodia.  
Mr. David Sun informed the prime minister about the progress of public welfare projects between Huawei and the Ministry of Rural Department. The water wells which are used to improve access to water has entered the site selection phase with the Ministry of Rural Development of Cambodia. The 50 water wells will be in five provinces lacking water, and construction will start in January and finish in April next year. The first group of 11 Cambodian students from the project “Seeds For The Future” have arrived in China and started their training at Huawei. The second and third groups will be selected by the Youth Federation of Cambodia and Huawei. They will come to China for training in 2017 and 2018.  
On November 9, all the social welfare donations from Huawei to Cambodia were handed over at the meeting between Huawei Senior Vice-President Li Jin’Ge and Prime Minister Hun Sen. As good corporate citizens, Huawei is devoting itself to the long-term and a stable business in Cambodia and is willing to do projects to help more Cambodian people benefit.
Mr. David Sun said: “It’s such a great honor that Huawei is able to witness the development of the ICT industry in Cambodia. The attention paid by Cambodia to the ICT industry and related infrastructure investments will lead to socio-economic development. The vision of Huawei is to build a better connected world. We will continue to invest in Cambodia and contribute to the economic development of Cambodia, ICT talent training and social welfare activities. 
Prime Minister Hun Sen affirmed what Huawei had contributed to the development of Cambodia’s ICT industry and highly appreciated the rapid progress of the social welfare activities such as water wells and “Seeds For The Future.” The “Seeds For The Future” project is helping Cambodia to train more local ICT talent and improve the technical ability of Cambodia Youth. Prime Minister Hun Sen remarked: “Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider.
I’m looking forward to Huawei participating in Cambodia’s national broadband construction with the latest communication technology to eliminate the digital divide and make Cambodian youth’s dreams come true.
Huawei started doing business in Cambodia in 1999 and has had extensive cooperation with local telecom operators, the government as well as customers in the ICT industry. Until now, Huawei’s communication network service has covered about 70 percent of consumers in Cambodia and Huawei mobile phones are ranked third for a share of the Cambodia market. Over the years, Huawei has helped Cambodia cultivated more than 1,000 ICT talents. Currently, 80 percent of Huawei’s employees are local staff.
H.E Tram Iv Tek, Minister of Cambodia Post and Telecommunication, H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, the Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Lyu Qing Chen, the CEO of Huawei Technologies (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., attended the meeting.
