Bodies of two soldiers who fell into river found

The two soldiers who fell into a river on Wednesday while crossing a bridge in Stung Treng province’s Siem Pang district were found dead on Friday morning, said an official.

Major General Mao Dara, provincial police chief, today said the bodies of the two soldier were seen 10km away from the collapsed bridge, noting that they had  drowned.

In a police report, the two soldiers were identified as Sok So Vandy and Phy Ny Daly, who both worked with Artillery Company III in O’Alai area.

“We picked their bodies up immediately when we found them,” he said. “Their families had already taken the bodies to prepare  funeral  rites.”

The two soldiers went missing on Wednesday after they fell into the river while trying to cross a bridge which was in a hazardous condition.

The incident occurred on O’Ma Bridge in Thmar Keo commune, which is situated near the Lao border, at about 8am.
