Police in Preah Sihanouk province raided a nightclub in Sihanoukville early today and arrested more than 100 Chinese and Cambodian club-goers suspected of drug use and trafficking.
Accompanied by provincial court prosecutor Sieng Sok and provincial police chief Major General Chuon Narin, Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Kuoch Chamroeun ordered police officers to raid Obama Club suspected of drug trafficking and drug use in Sihanoukville’s Buon commune.
“We detained more than 100 Chinese nationals and Cambodians for questioning,” Major Gen Narin said, adding that he is handling the case and then declined further comment.
Kheang Phearum, spokesman of Preah Sihanouk province, said that police had investigated the club before the raid.
“Our authorities do not tolerate any clubs, KTVs, and other entertainment venues. If they are found to have been involved with drug, we will crack down on them right away,” Mr Phearum said, adding that he was unclear how many Chinese nationals were held for questioning at the police headquarters.
