A man was found dead yesterday with a gun in his hand near a Lexus SUV in Stung Hav district’s O’tres commune in Preah Sihanouk province and police are treating the case as a suicide.
Major General Chuon Narin, provincial police chief, said police received a call shortly after 6.50am yesterday reporting that a man’s body was found on the road with a gun in his hand.
The body was identified as Major Heng Souk Kiri, a deputy office director at the administration department of the General Department of Immigration.
Police determined that Maj Souk Kiri committed suicide due to stress and from suffering a chronic disease. It further noted that he used a gun to shoot the left side of his head, as he was left handed, which killed him.
“Upon arrival, we discovered a suicide note in the car, and the victim’s colleagues confirmed that the handwriting matched that of his, as well as other evidence which show that the victim shot himself,” Maj Gen Narin said.
In a separate case, Maj Gen Narin noted that police are seeking to arrest a third suspect in a murder case.
He said that in early May, provincial police arrested two Chinese nationals suspected to have murdered a fellow countryman in Sihanoukville.
He noted that the murder took place at about 3.30pm on May 6 in front of a hotel in Buon commune. However, he declined to name the suspects or the victim, noting that investigations are still ongoing.
“Currently we have received a warrant from the court to arrest another suspect, since after questioning the two suspects, we still have yet to retrieve enough information as they have accused another person, who is not yet arrested,” he said.
