The inaugural Khmer Inter Championship (KIC) was unveiled yesterday with organisers announcing the support of five major sporting institutions hoping to help promote the event and contribute to the development of the sport.
The Kun Khmer boxing championship program is being organised by ONE TV and Sky One after the formation of the Khmer Inter Championship (KIC) with four Cambodian athletes and four Thai athletes competing for titles later this month.
The president of the Kun Khmer Boxing Federation said it was a big chance to contribute to the development of Kun Khmer and the major institutions which recognised the program included the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), Kun Khmer Boxing Federation and Boxing Association of the Ministry of Interior.
He requested that the commission of technical committees, commissioners and judge fairly with irregularities resolved immediately by video reviews.
Yeun Punlork, Vice President of the association of the Ministry of Interior also confirmed that the organisation aimed for fair competition, adhering to fair play rules, with respect to the rules of the bout.
The two groups of four will be divided into Group A and B with the winners of each group going to the semi-finals. The first prize is $4,000, with second place rewarded with second $2,000. Third will receive $ 1,000.
The last major international Kun Khmer showpiece was held in December last year.
A three-day Kun Khmer tournament was held in celebration of the inauguration of the Win-Win Monument.
