Kandal Provincial Court yesterday charged and jailed two Chinese nationals for drug use and trafficking in Koh Thom district.

Brigadier General Chhoeun Socheath, chief of the provincial anti-drug department, identified the two accused men as Chin Hue Jing, 50, and Chae Xiao Kung, 26.

Brig Gen Socheath said that both were gamblers who worked with a Chinese-owned casino in Sampou Poun commune in Kandal province’s Koh Thom district.

He added that they were both charged with drug use and trafficking, noting that the two men are currently in pre-trial detention following their arrests last week.

Major Sok Chantha, deputy chief of Koh Thom district police, said they were both suspected of using and trafficking drugs, including selling them to other Chinese gamblers in Koh Thom district.

Maj Chantha noted that the men were arrested separately. Mr Chin was arrested red-handed at about 11pm on Friday at a quiet area near a Chinese-owned casino in Sampou Poun commune.

“Mr Chin was arrested while he was sitting down and using drugs,” Maj Chanta said. “After the arrest, police seized a small package of crystal methamphetamine from him.”

He added that Mr Chae was arrested in front of a casino at about 1:30am on Saturday. He was arrested after police inspected him and found two packages of meth inside his trouser pocket.

“He (Mr Chea) hid the drugs inside his trouser pocket and attempted to bring them into a casino to sell to other users,” Maj Chantha said. “He was arrested while holding the evidence after police inspected him and found the drugs on him.”

He added that police seized the two packages of meth along with one phone from Mr Chae.

Maj Chantha said police conducted urine tests on both men following their arrests, and both came back positive for drug use.
