The Cambodian Athletics Federation announced it intended to send seven of its youngsters and two coaches to the 11th ASEAN Schools Games 2019 which gets underway in Indonesia next week.
Federation secretary-general Hun Borey said the federation would send athletes and coaches to represent Cambodia in the prestigious regional event. The two coaches are deputy secretary-general Pou Reatrey and coach Pov Sitha. The seven players include Phan Phan Chhay, Leap Piseth, Bun Seiha, and Pov Saamnang among others.
The athletes will compete in 200m, men and women, 400m female, 800m female, 1500m female, 4x400meter female, and 3000m men and women.
The 11th ASEAN Schools Games will take place from July 17-25, 2019 in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia and is the first time that Central Java is hosting the event after Surabaya hosted in 2012.
The ASEAN Schools Games is an annual sporting event which aims to enhance friendship among students around the Southeast Asian region. It also seeks to promote ASEAN solidarity among the youth through school sports and provide opportunities for school athletes to engage in cultural exchange.
ASG 2018 brought together 1,500 students from 10 countries from the region competing in 11 different sports; artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, basketball, netball, rhythmic gymnastics, sepaktakraw, squash, swimming, table tennis and volleyball.
The 10-day event took place at various sporting venues in Kuala Lumpur, including Shah Alam and Bukit Jalil stadium.
At the last event, there were 100 plus events in 9 sport disciplines.
