Prime Minister Hun Sen today highlighted Cambodia’s achievements after becoming Asean member for two decades, saying the country has maintained peace, and stability.
The 34th Asean Summit is being held yesterday and today in Bangkok.
This year’s summit was held under the theme “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” and the discussions focused on promoting cooperation and strengthening consensus among Asean member states with the goal of addressing new global challenges.
Speaking to Asean leaders today, Mr Hun Sen said that since becoming Asean member in 1999, Cambodia implemented its duty as Asean member by maintaining peace and stability.
“This year is 20th anniversary of Cambodia as Asean member. Cambodia respects the principle and obligation as Asean member, especially our participation to maintain peace, stability, development and prosperity,” Mr Hun Sen said.
He also called for Asean leaders to push for future trade in the bloc, noting that Asean Regional Mine Action Center will be located in the Kingdom and it will play an important role in response to Asean’s vision.
