Lieutenant General Hun Manet, Royal Cambodia Armed Forces deputy commander-in-chief, on Tuesday met with Singapore’s national security and foreign ministers to strengthen military ties and mutual cooperation between both countries.
Lt Gen Manet is on a visit to Singapore until today, to forge closer ties between the Cambodian and Singapore armed forces.
In a statement obtained yesterday, Lt Gen Manet said he had held discussions with senior minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean and Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan on strengthening ties.
Mr Balakrishnan later posted on his Facebook paged that he was glad to meet Lt Gen Manet and had congratulated him on his appointment as the Commander of the Army of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
“We had a good discussion on emerging security challenges in the region, and agreed that it was important to cooperate both bilaterally and within Asean to tackle these issues,” he said. “Singapore and Cambodia are old friends and our wide-ranging cooperation has benefited both sides.”
