International Children’s Day
Children are the world’s hope. This is true, especially in Cambodia. According to an official census in 2008, 29 percent of the total population of the Kingdom are younger than 15 years old. At present, the total population has reached to over 16 million. The World Bank’s report in April indicated that 36 percent of three- to five-year-olds are enrolled in early education.
This is the very reason Cambodia proudly joins the celebration of International Children’s Day every 1st of June. The country adopted the children’s rights convention in 1992 and has since then upheld children’s rights including survival, development, protection and participation.
