Lao Airlines, the country’s national flag carrier, announced that it will start flying to Phnom Penh again in October.
Laos Ambassador to Cambodia Amphay Kindavong on Friday told Cambodian Tourism Minister Thong Khon that the airline will restore its flight connecting the capitals of both countries in upcoming months.
Mr Kindavong said the airline also has plans to establish direct flights between the Laotian capital, Vientiane, and Siem Reap and Sihanoukville in Cambodia, according to Top Sopheak, spokesman of the Ministry of Tourism.
Minister Khon said Cambodia and Laos will cooperate to create attractive packages for tourists, according to a post in the ministry’s Facebook page. Mr Khon said such packages would be attractive because both countries boast Unesco-listed ancient temples.
In the first four months of the year, about 120,000 Lao tourists visited Cambodia, making Laos the third biggest market for the local tourism sector.
Last year, Cambodia received 420,000 Laotian tourists.
