Nepali PM, Heng Samrin and Say Chhum call for closer ties

National Assembly president Heng Samrin, Senate president Say Chhum and visiting Nepali Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli today called for more cooperation between both countries and mutual support on the international stage.

Mr Sharma Oli, today morning paid a courtesy call on Mr Samrin who gave him a warm welcome at his office in the assembly before they began talks.

Speaking to a group of journalists after the meeting Mr Samrin’s cabinet chief Keo Piseth said that Mr Samrin had expressed his commitment to promote relations, in particular trade cooperation, between the two countries.

“Samdech president [Mr Samrin] said that the Nepalese Prime Minister’s trip has a historic significance for the Cambodian government and people,” Mr Piseth said. “It reflects the expansion of strong friendship and cooperation between both countries.”

“Samdech said both countries’ legislative assemblies enjoy good cooperation and will support each other on the international stage,” he added.

In response, Mr Sharma Oli thanked Mr Samrin for his time and praised Cambodia’s economic growth which enhances its citizens’ living standards.

“His excellency KP Sharma Oli noted the fast economic growth of Cambodia which allowed its people to have better livelihoods,” Mr Piseth said. “He added that Nepal will use Cambodia’s experience as a model to push for economic development.”
