More than 50 villagers from Por Senchey district’s Plerng Ches Rotes commune took to the streets yesterday to protest against the use of their village as a dumpsite.
According to the villagers, Cintri, a company tasked by City Hall to collect rubbish, has been transporting rubbish into their village.
The villagers said the protest took place near the site, and they want district authorities to help prohibit the action.
An unnamed villager yesterday said the company began transporting rubbish days ago.
“The area has never had a dumpsite, it only began a few days ago,” the villager said.
“Villagers are shocked when they see this. It’s difficult to breath. We are afraid it will affect hygiene, their health, and the environment.”
Chan Pros, another villager, said the company now dumps rubbish in an area near a school, a pagoda and a market.
“It will affect students and pagodas,” Mr Pros said. “There are a lot of people who live there. We don’t want to see a dumpsite in the area.”
