MG Motor, the British brand is now making splash on the Cambodian market.
After a growth of 124% in sales in 2018, the brand has almost tripled his numbers the first quarter of 2019.
The British brand is well positioned on the SUV segment where it penetrated the top 5 best selling 2019 vehicles in Cambodia. MG even integrated the top 3 on several occasion last year.
Managing Director Sorya PUM said the growth of MG cars will be in line with the country’s car market uptick to 15%. The trend is also seeing used cars owners moving towards new cars from authorised dealers. The benefits associated to authorised dealers programs such as long term warranty, service centres and gifts policy seduce more and more car owners, up to 28% for example in November against only 10% of them a year before.
Finally, SUVs have also been eating market shares over the pickup. Even if the pickup is still the best selling vehicle type in Cambodia, SUVs have more than doubled their shares and we now see a 50/50 split between commercial and light passenger vehicles.
The strength of MG is in its SUV line. The MG RX5 first has conquered the hearts of many drivers in Phnom Penh. The MG ZS follows closely with a relaunch in late 2018 with a new low consuming turbocharged version and a revamped design.
“MG’s continuous sales growth is testament to our commitment and determination to delivering the best for our customers in terms of quality, safety and innovative technology. The MG ZS combines innovative motorisation, genuine British design and an affordable price.”
To complete its range, MG also launched the fresh MG3, with its new entertainment system targeted at an urban population.
The company reserves also a few surprises for this year with a new SUV in its line-up, an electric version of one of its existing model, and maybe the import of the MG6, a sporty sedan still under consideration. Definitely a brand to follow on the always expanding car market.
