Phnom Penh-April 03, 2018: The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) has put on “National Primary School Sport Activities competition” featuring 4 sports (football, volleyball, basketball, and athletics) for all provinces and Phnom Penh. 4,000 participants joined the competition, with 1,000 participants being selected for the final competition, which began on 29 March and finished on 03 April 2019.
MILO, an iconic beverage brand of Nestlé, collaborated with the MoEYS to bring the competition to primary school children in Cambodia, honoring the brand’s commitment to providing access to an active lifestyle.
MILO believes in helping kids to be successful in life through strong personal values and well-developed social skills. Their participation also aligns with Nestlé’s mission of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future.
Ms. April Wong, Head of marketing for Nestle Cambodia said “MILO has been supporting children’s health and nutrition in Cambodia since 2017. This sponsorship is to inspire Cambodian schoolchildren to have more active lifestyles and become healthy champions through sports and proper nutrition. Additionally, the goal is to work with MoEYS in raising awareness about the value of physical education and sports, which bring a wealth of physical and mental benefits and teach life lessons that prepare schoolchildren for a successful adulthood.”
Sports are an effective social motivator, scientifically proven to provide positive behavior modeling for children where books fall short. Sports provide a variety of physical, mental, and social development benefits. Sports improve physical fitness, stimulate strong bones and muscles, promote healthy weight, and decrease the risk of health-related issues later in life. Physical activity ensures kids sleep better and have a more positive outlook on life. Healthy, physically active kids also are more motivated, alert, and successful.
“We believe that kids can greatly benefit from the values to be learned from sports: self-respect, perseverance, discipline, teamwork, and humility. We are confident this will inspire them to grow further with sports and we thank MILO for their support,” said H.E Ouk Sethycheath of MoEYS.
One of the winners, speaking on behalf of the other children, said “As winners we feel so incredibly excited to be here and to learn so much from the competition. We feel a lot of pressure being among so many talented players, many who have much more experience. But we are grateful for the support from the Ministry, which has enabled us to participate and win in the competition. We are also incredibly grateful to MILO for the sponsorship.”
MILO is the world’s leading chocolate malt beverage that can be prepared with hot or cold milk or water. Created in Australia in the early 1930s, it offers essential vitamins and minerals to meet the nutrition and energy demands of young bodies and minds. MILO takes kids’ development seriously and has long been known as a nutritious chocolate malt drink which has been long associated with sports.
Each year, more than 22 million children participate in MILO programmers for the promotion of grassroots sports, including the collaboration with Barcelona FC which has already provided world-class training to thousands of children in countries all over the world.
