Defense Minister General Tea Banh said during his speech at the UN that Cambodia is committed to supporting the UN’s action for peace.

Speaking to UN conference under the theme “2019 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial on Uniformed Capabilities, Performance and Protection at the UN headquarters in New York on Saturday, Gen Banh said that Cambodia commits to support “Action for Peace” such as strengthening professional skills prior to the deployment, engaging in protecting civilians, and combating violence.

“Despite the limited resources and defense resources available, Cambodia still can respond to the need to express strong will and firm commitment for contributing to peace, stability and humanitarian work at the international level,” he said.

Gen Banh said since 2006 Cambodia has dispatched its blue helmets to Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, Lebanon, Mali, Central African Republic, Syria and Cyprus.

He said that Cambodia used to receive UN peacekeepers more than 20 years ago.

“Just more than 20 years ago, Cambodia used to receive UN peacekeepers to assist in finding peace and safety for Cambodian citizens and each had made a priceless sacrifice,” Gen Banh said.
