Being granted a scholarship can be every student’s dream but it is also a major challenge for many as the process of getting scholarships is not easy. The lack of sensible information adds to the dilemma.

To solve this, the US Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted Education USA Fair 2019 at the Great Duke Hotel on March 4 to highlight the various educational opportunities for Cambodian students in the US. The education fair also provided a unique venue for Cambodians to connect with US institutions of higher learning and to learn about the advantages of receiving a US university education.

Education USA Fair 2019 was one of the best opportunities for current students and potential applicants to discover their dream programme or to get a feel of other suitable study options. Meeting university representatives in person as well as peers who may have similar goals for their education or career was definitely worth the time.

Education USA is a US Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers in more than 170 countries. The network promotes US higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive and updated information about opportunities to study at accredited post-secondary institutions in the United States. It also provides services to the US higher education community to help institutional leaders meet their recruitment and campus internationalisation goals.

Last Monday’s Education USA Fair 2019 was filled with interaction among hundreds of students from different schools. Participants toured around the booths of different universities to gather academic information.

Samreth Amra, a high school student who wants to expand her knowledge and apply for a scholarship in Japan participated in the event.

“Since most of us are Grade 12 students which means we are focusing more on getting our diplomas rather than on getting scholarships information as of now. Therefore, I find this US education fair really beneficial for most of the students because this gives platform for students to prepare themselves ahead and learn more about the benefits that they can get from the scholarships,” the 18 year-old student shared.

Thoy Leangsim, a Grade 12 student at Golden Gate American School also addressed her impression and perspective about the benefits of the fair.

“The enthusiasm of the students and activeness of the people here make me so excited and curious to know more about the scholarship the US embassy has organised.”

With the fair, students like Amra and Leangsim will now be able to prepare themselves and now have clear idea on how they can work on their scholarship applications, how they will adjust to the new environment and how they will succeed in the US.
