The Cambodian Armwrestling Federation was officially inaugurated yesterday at the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.
The federation elected an organizing a team of 10 leaders including Dr. Meas Sarin, as President of the Federation, Khiev Chanra as Vice-President, Lom Madam Lim Marina as Vice-Chairman, Im Panhavuth as Vice President, and more.
In his address, Mr. Sarin said that he expected athletes to work together to build this new sport within Cambodia.
“The future will come when people build, create and develop and this includes social development through sport, he said. “The federation will prepare documents to submit membership to the World Armwrestling Federation.
He also requested that all relevant bodies encourage the new federation to ready in the hope of entry to the 2023 Phnom Penh SEA Games. Armwrestling is not an Olympic sport and is a sport is based on weight and age.
On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, secretary general Vath Chamroeun expressed his support for this new sport in Cambodia, as well as encouraging more diverse sports.
The World Federation counts 81 countries as its members including 22 members from Asia.
Within ASEAN only three countries are registered; Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
