Shoutout to all local music lovers! Smart Axiata has just officially launched “Pleng” – a revamp of the former Smart Music streaming application – to give Cambodians the best way to listen to Khmer music. With strong partnership with Hungama and Hang Meas, local entertainment contents will now be easily available.
Thomas Hundt, CEO of Smart Axiata, told audience during the launch on February 19, “Music is life. To most people, life is not colourful, exciting and inspiring without music. We know how proud Cambodians are with regards to their culture and music. That is why since 2015, Smart has led the way by being the first to launch a music streaming app in the Kingdom, promoting local artists as well as legalising their music contents. We organise top-notch concerts and brought many things such as international artists to Cambodia”.
With “Pleng”, Hundt added, Smart Axiata steps forward in promoting digital entertainment and supporting the rich musical landscape of Cambodia. The new app combines the best ways to listen to music online and offline – wherever you are, whenever you wish. It is powered by India’s leading digital entertainment company Hungama as well as local entertainment powerhouse Hang Meas to offer wide range of song genres.
Aside from its user-friendly interface, “Pleng” also features radio-type streaming curated by the finest disc jockeys. Users can shuffle their playlists, enjoy enhanced play features as well as follow their favourite artist profiles.
“We also hope and believe that this platform will further progress our aim to raise awareness of the importance of legally protected intellectual property right for all the musicians, whilst, to create the opportunity to Cambodian artists to receive well-deserved recognition and royalty for their works.” said Smart’s top executive.
Siddhartha Roy, COO of Hungama Digital Media, was also ecstatic to bring India’s world-class digital entertainment product in Cambodia through a partnership with Smart Axiata.
“You will be able to experience the best local as well as international music on Pleng. It comes with complete real social features so then you can share it on Facebook, Twitter, etc. There are a lot of programming and local contents created by local teams in bringing great experience to all users.
“If you like your music, this is the best place where you can listen to it. By streaming on Pleng, you will also get rewards such as passes to concerts and events or some merchandise you can enjoy. Please use the product and give us feedback because feedbacks are really important so we can work forward to create more interesting and local flavour to your music experience,” Siddhartha said.
“Pleng” can be downloaded for free from Apple App Store and Google Play Store. An upgraded version of the app – “Pleng Pro” – is also available for 5 cents a day, offering unlimited download and offline use, plus other streaming features.
