Sword-Wielding Teenagers Arrested
PHNOM PENH – Three young men were arrested on Wednesday evening after being spotted riding on a motorbike with knives and swords on Street 192 and Street 261 in Toul Kork.
According to police, the suspects are Sovan Sovathdy, 16, Heng Sievfong, 16, Choy Sophea, 16.
Local police said that before the arrest, they were patrolling the area and saw the three teenagers race by on their bike. Each had a backpack with tools sticking out. The boys looked like they were headed for a fight.
Police officials stopped them and took them to the police station. There they found two swords, one cleaver and a knife in their backpacks.
Police were unable to figure out where they were going. But they held them at the police station for the night.
Rider Faints, Crashes and Dies
PHNOM PENH – A man was killed instantly when he fell off his bike and hit his head on the pavement Thursday morning on Street 271 in Toul Kok district.
The victim is Heng Vanna, 60, a moto taxi driver from Prey Veng province, police said.
According to witnesses at the scene, the victim was riding his black motorbike southbound when he slowed down and braked hard near the sidewalk.
Mr. Vanna fell off his bike and hit his head on the pavement, killing him immediately. Police who contacted his family after the accident said he had high blood pressure, which may have caused him to faint.
Black Lexus Injures Motorbike Rider
PHNOM PENH – A man was seriously injured after his motorbike was hit by a car Wednesday night on National Road 5.
The victim is Ly Ratha, 31, police said.
Police said Mr. Ratha was riding a black motorbike northbound when a black Lexus driving westbound slammed into him.
The driver tried to speed away but his car was damaged, so he parked it on the side of the street and fled the scene.
After the accident, local police arrived and called an ambulance for the victim, who was seriously injured. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
