Nearly 200 mortar tail fins were handed over to Battambang city police on Friday after residents of O’Kcheay village found them in a canal.

Major Suon Chhieth, deputy chief of city police, said the villagers found a total of 187 120mm, 82mm and 60mm mortar tail fins on Friday afternoon, noting that the fins may have been discarded by scrappers.

“Those mortar tails are remnants from long ago, scrappers might have not have been able to sell the tails,” Maj Chhieth said.

“Those tails aren’t attached to any explosives, but we are ready to hand them over to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre.”

He added that all residents, especially scrappers, must immediately report the discovery of unexploded ordnance.
