Siem Reap Provincial Court on Saturday charged and jailed four Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in operating an illegal online gambling den in Siem Reap city.

Major General Phoeung Chendarithy, chief of the provincial general crimes department, identified the accused as Jiang Jianchun, Xu Hongxing, Tong Chao and Hao Bin.

Maj Chendarithy said the accused were arrested on Thursday, charged by the court and sent to prison pending trial.

If convicted, each man could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Captain Bun Lim, a penal officer with Siem Reap city police, said the group was led by Mr Jiang, owner of the online gambling den called “City Impression Entertainment World”. Cap Lim said the other three men worked as a manager, supervisor and IT technician.

He said all four were arrested at about 11pm on Thursday after a prosecutor led provincial and city police to raid the online gambling den in the city’s Svay Dangkum commune.
