Drunk Driver Crashes Into US Ambassador Residence

PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – A university student crashed into the home of US Ambassador William Todd Tuesday night. 

The driver was Tan Sovannara, a 21-year-old student at Paññāsāstra University. 
 
According to traffic police, Mr. Sovannara hit a car and a motorbike before slamming into the wall around the ambassador’s house, severely injuring two people.

He was given an alcohol test at the scene and was found to be drunk.
 
After hitting the two people with his car on Sothearos street, he tried to keep driving before crashing his Lexus into the ambassador’s residence on Norodom street.
 
The police were at the scene immediately, where they arrested Mr. Sovannara and impounded his car. The victims were sent to the hospital for medical treatment. 
 
According to traffic police officer Sem Khunthea, Mr. Sovannara was sent to court on Wednesday afternoon.
