PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times)—Platinum Cineplex Theater gave a $952 donation to the Child Helpline Cambodia Organization for the “Together For Cambodian Children Protection” social charity event on Tuesday.

This event hopes to raise awareness about the protection of children who have psychological problems and children right’s violations in the Kingdom.

The managing director of Platinum Cineplex, Sao Sokny, said the event had two goals: to improve education, health and social welfare in Cambodia and to convince other companies to pay more attention to helping society.

“When we help each other in society, we will receive benefits as a whole in the country,” Mr. Sokny said. “We offered funds not only for this organization, but for the Orphaned Children Center in Kompong Speu province, and we plan to give more than $1,000 to the earthquake relief efforts in Nepal soon.”

The executive director of Child Helpline Cambodia, Sean Sokphay, said that the organization received more than 10,000 calls per month from every province around the country from both children and adults about the psychological issues they face.

Mr. Sokphay added that when he received the 3,000 – 4,000 calls from children, he found that many of them dealt with child abuse, sexual harassment, HIV, and some were suicidal.

“You can call Child Helpline Cambodia anytime for free, 24 hours a day if you would like to receive emotional support or further information on this subject,” Mr. Sokphay said.
