Join NagaWorld to say ‘No Plastic Straws Please’

Saying no to plastic straws is one of the simplest ways to contribute towards reducing plastic pollution.

In addition to offering the best hospitality service in Cambodia, NagaWorld is also putting much effort into contributing something significant to the environment. The world-class integrated resort has introduced several projects that focus on environmental awareness and conservation over the years. To add to its efforts, NagaWorld has announced it will be removing single-use plastic straws from its operations from January 1st next year as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility’s environmental care initiatives.

The ‘No Plastic Straws Please’ campaign will be implemented resort-wide following a successful pilot programme initiated by NagaWorld Kind Hearts since June this year.

The campaign aims to eliminate the use of around 4 million plastic straws a year. Eco-friendly straws will be available upon request for guests.

To prove its commitment to save Mother Earth, NagaWorld has already implemented the ‘no plastic straw’ policy with its own staff members, who have also been encouraged to share the message with their family and friends.

Mr Pern Chen, NagaWorld’s managing director, said, “We are pleased to be part of the worldwide no plastic straw movement. We believe that saying no to plastic straws is one of the simplest ways everyone, including our guests, can contribute towards reducing plastic pollution and a small but powerful step forward in protecting our environment”.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme, an estimated minimum of 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in the oceans each year. Plastic straws are undeniably one of the most commonly littered items found floating at sea, and are severely endangering marine wildlife and tourism. A video of a plastic straw being painfully removed from the nostril of a sea turtle went viral in 2017, attracting the attention of millions worldwide to its devastating impact to sea creatures. Unknown to most, this problem – man-made and preventable at that – has been costing at least USD8 billion in damage to marine ecosystems.

NagaWorld Kind Heart’s environmental programmes, such as the 3-Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) strategy for waste management, are in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which include comprehensive initiatives in promoting energy efficiency and reduction of carbon footprints.

NagaWorld vows to continue exploring new and innovative eco-friendly approaches to its day-to-day business operations for sustainable growth.
