The recognition by global market researcher Frost & Sullivan on Smart Axiata Co Ltd as ‘Cambodia Mobile Service Provider of the Year 2018’ for the third year straight and ‘Cambodia Mobile Data Service Provider of 2018’ speaks volumes of the company’s stellar financial performance, advanced network capabilities, innovative lifestyle and entertainment offerings, and market data leadership.

Smart Axiata CEO Thomas Hundt said receiving such recognition from one of the world’s top research firms is a proud moment for the telecommunications company.

“All our employees constantly strive to serve our subscribers, partners and stakeholders at best, and most effectively through affordable, innovative, simple and high-quality lifestyle offerings. Trust that we will continue this daily commitment and our promise of enriching millions of lives towards becoming Cambodia’s Digital Champion by 2020,” he said in a statement.

Frost & Sullivan Information Communication and Technology practice research analyst Jonathan Yap said Smart Axiata has again proven itself to be the most attuned to its subscribers’ wants and needs. Mr Yap said having understood mobile data speeds and network coverage as key factors that subscribers look for, the company raised its 4G population coverage significantly in 2017, and introduced 4.5G technology to cater to data-intensive applications.

“The consistent improvements made to its service offerings have translated to a positive uptake in mobile data subscribers and perception as the best mobile data service provider in the country,” he added.

This achievement is the latest of a long list of awards Smart Axiata won over the past years in recognition of its superior services, performance and national contribution in Cambodia.

Smart Axiata first bagged a Frost & Sullivan award in 2015 when it won the ‘Asia Pacific Emerging Market Award,’ and was later named ‘Cambodia Mobile Service Provider of the Year’ in 2016 and 2017.

“Our first award from Frost & Sullivan did not just look at Cambodia but included all of APAC emerging markets such as Laos, Cambodia and Timor-Leste. Following that, for three years consecutively we were recognised as the best telco in Cambodia. It is rewarding and makes us proud,” said Mr Hundt, in an interview with Khmer Times.

Smart Axiata was recently named ‘Best Emerging Market Operator 2018’ by Telecom Asia while bagging the ‘Best Telecommunications Company Cambodia’ and ‘Best CSR Company Cambodia’ awards by Global Banking and Finance Review for the fourth time.

It also received a ‘Gold Award for Tax Compliance’ by Cambodia’s General Department of Taxation that lauded Smart Axiata, the first ever mobile operator to win it, for meeting its tax obligations under Cambodian law.

“The award is a recognition of what we do. It is great in the context of the Frost & Sullivan award that it is not an award you apply for, or pay for.

“It is using its own analyst to screen the market, observe the key players and make their own judgment that Smart Axiata is the best performing and most progressive telco in the market,” he added.
