It’s the last month of 2018 and the local music industry is ending the year with a bang with Khmer pop artist Chet Kanhchna’s first album.

Kanhchna’s ‘Sweet Nightmare’ will be officially launched on December 22 at the Factory Phnom Penh, where she will also be showcasing her singing prowess.

The album will contain seven original songs written by Kanhchna herself.

“I opted to call it ‘Sweet Nightmare’ because of my experiences the past years. I call those bad memories as sweet nightmare. Each of them hurt me, but they also made me stronger in the process. So, I wanted to the share those moments to you through the songs,” said Kanhchna, noting that she wants to share the story of her life – how she coped with depression and how she continues to be grateful for the love of her fans and friends.

The album, Kanhchna said, will also be her contribution to the burgeoning popularity of pop music in the kingdom.

“I put my soul, my effort, my time in the album for almost a year. I hope my songs will heal the people who listen to them like how music helped me to recover from my sadness.”

Kanhchna’s manager, Eng Raksmey, also emphasised that it is his talent’s dream to elevate the standard of music and Cambodia and offer something different to the audience.

“Ms Kanhchna wanted to write about something really personal, and speak to her fans through it. She did it. It took a lot of guts, effort, patience and money to finish the album that we have been working tirelessly on for almost a year! I really can’t wait to share her music to everyone,” Mr Raksmey said.

‘Sweet Nightmare’ will also be available exclusively on Smart Music app, a platform that supports original music in Cambodia.
