Kampong Speu provincial police on Saturday arrested a soldier and two accomplices and seized nearly 400 grams of crystal meth from them in Chamkar Mon city.
Major Ly Vannak, a provincial anti-drug police officer, identified the suspects as Major Ros Sody, 46, from the provincial military base, and two jobless men Lay Kong, 31, living in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district and Taig Piseth, 34, from Kampong Cham province’s Batheay district.
Maj Vannak said the three men worked for drug distributors and sold drugs to users in the province.
He said they were arrested at about 3pm on Saturday when police raided the Neak Meas Guesthouse in Svay Kravanh commune where they were staying.
Maj Vannak said that police arrested the suspects following a two-month operation involving an undercover police officer.
“They were arrested after they sold the drugs to the undercover officer in the guesthouse room,” he said. “After their arrests, police seized two big packages of methamphetamine weighing 360.50 grams, a drug scale, seven phones, a pistol with eight bullets, two motorbikes and other drug paraphernalia from them.”
Maj Vannak added that after their arrests all three tested positive for drugs.
Major General Som Samuon, provincial police chief, yesterday said that Maj Sody, Mr Kong and Mr Piseth are still being questioned at the provincial police headquarters. He added that they will be sent to the provincial court today.
In a separate case, Kampong Chhnang provincial police on Friday arrested 20 people, including four women, and seized nearly 100 small packets of crystal meth and also meth tablets during raids in Kampong Chhnang city.
Major General Loch Vannara, provincial police chief, yesterday said that the suspects were arrested at about 5.30 pm after police raided four rental houses in the city.
“They all were arrested on Friday by provincial anti-drug police while they were smoking drugs at their rental houses,” he said. “After their arrests all 20 tested positive for drugs.”
Maj Gen Vannara said that during the raids police seized 93 small packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 270.15 grams, 183 meth tablets weighing 19.60 grams, two phones, two motorbikes, two drug scales and other drug paraphernalia from them.
He said that after interrogating them, police accused five men, who owned the drugs, of drug use and trafficking while the other suspects were accused of drug use.
Maj Gen Vannara added that all 20 are now detained at the provincial police headquarters and will be sent to the provincial court today.
