The Cambodian national football team sit in 172nd place in the latest FIFA Rankings released on Friday.

After a series of defeats in recent international friendly matches and a poor performance at the ongoing AFF Suzuki Cup, the Kouprey’s ranking suffered, dropping two ranking places compared to the previous month.

Cambodia’s head coach Felix Dalmas lauded his players even as they suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Vietnam in their final group match of the AFF Suzuki Cup.

“Very proud of what the team has done, said Cambodia’s head coach Felix Dalmas after defeat to Vietnam. “For fighting until the end with our philosophy and having the courage to challenge and play. There is a promising future.”

Despite the backing of Japanese general manager Keisuke Honda, the team registered a solitary win at home to Laos – suffering defeats to Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam in their other group games.

Compared to their ASEAN neighbours, Cambodia sits 8th in the rankings ahead of Laos, Brunei and Timor Leste.

Vietnam is ranked number one in Southeast Asia with a ranking of 100 in the FIFA Ranking. The Philippines is ranked 114, Thailand 118, Myanmar 139, Indonesia 160, Singapore 165 and Malaysia 167.

Belgium took top spot in the rankings, followed by France, Brazil, Croatia, and England.
