One of Phnom Penh’s most exciting and unique live entertainment events is back, and it’s bigger and better than ever before!

Riel Brewing and Comedy in Cambodia join forces for the third time to present The Brew Cruise on Saturday December 1, featuring a sumptuous sunset river cruise, an hour of stand-up comedy and an hour of thumping live music to bring you home. The event is sponsored by Angkor Research, Rambutan Resort and Giant Ibis buses.

Tickets are $20 each, or $15 if booked in advance via email to [email protected], and also include 1 free drink such as a delicious Riel craft beer, which will be on sale on board. Customers can also pre-book sandwiches from Molly’s to savour on the boat, departing Riverside at 5pm and returning at 8pm.

Headlining the comedy show will be the emphatically bearded British comic Garrett Millerick, who has established a reputation as one of the finest live acts of his generation and described as “Wickedly funny” by The Times newspaper.

From regularly hosting End of The Road Festival alongside some of the biggest names in comedy to performing for United Nations peacekeeping troops, Millerick’s district comedic voice is establishing a growing audience. Already a fixture at the most respected comedy clubs in the UK, he became one of the new generation of comics to be making weekend appearances at the world-famous Comedy Store in London’s Leicester Square. His festival shows have played to sold-out audiences from Adelaide to Machynlleth, and then on to the Edinburgh Festival.

“I got in a lot of trouble at school for being unruly. So my mother sent me to speech and drama lessons when I was four. Thus began this slow decline into madness,” says Millerick.

The 35-year-old has experienced his fair share of tricky gigs during his time as a professional comic, including when he once “fluffed a stage punch” and smacked a fellow performer in the face during a sketch show. “I shattered his nose and gave him two black eyes. Blood everywhere. The show fell apart moments later.”

When asked what audiences can expect from his performance, he says: “I have a 7-minute routine about Chesney Hawkes that’ll challenge everything you think you know about life.” It might also change everything you know about Chesney Hawkes.

Millerick will be supported by Vu Minh Tu, a comedy force to be reckoned with from Vietnam, and Ben Frank, a Shanghai-based Amercian with unique and hilarious observations. Trailblazing Phnom Penh stand-up Sam Thomas will assume MC duties.

Directly following the comedy comes the exciting debut performance of Initial Dynamo, with the charismatic front men of Hypnotic Fist Technique – Initial G & Mike Dynamo – connecting to deliver the purest lyrical miracle this side of the Mekong. Against a backdrop of funked-out production by fellow HFT genius Supreme Premium D, Initial Dynamo provides a classic hip hop feel that’ll get your mind right and your stankin’ ass moving.

Initial G and Mike Dynamo will perform at the Brew Cruise.

Tickets are limited so advance bookings are recommended to secure your place on the best boat party of the year!
