The Interior Ministry’s identification department has announced that all citizens aged 15-years-old and above will need to renew their ID cards by the end of the year before they expire.
“In order to ensure rights, freedom and legal benefits of individuals, the identification department appeals to all Cambodians to please register new IDs,” a statement from the department on Wednesday said.
It added that the renewal is compulsory for all citizens aged 15 and above, noting that the process can be done at police stations and local government offices around the country.
“We strongly hope that all people who are still using the old ID cards will cooperate and make new IDs,” it said.
Department director Kheang Sokunthea said about 9.6 million Cambodians will need new IDs.
